A little about ourselves
International Women's House was started in 1997 by the Junior League
of DeKalb County. Originally housed in a duplex it began to fulfill its mission
of offering shelter and assistance to victims of domestic violence, especially
those women and children who are immigrants. In 1999 with full support and
encouragement of the League, IWH became autonomous and attained
its own 501 (3) C status.
International Womens House moved to its current location in 2005
after a three year capital campaign in which IWH raised
$1,050,000.
Now not only is IWH the only shelter in the state to serve women of all nationalities, it is the only shelter in the country with such an open door policy. Its services are absolutely critical to Metropolitan Atlanta where 75 % of all refugees to the state of Georgia relocate and to DeKalb County where two-thirds of them decide to settle.
